Bon Odori Festival is a Japanese Buddhist observance honouring the spirits of ancestors, who return once a year to visit their families. Traditional dance is performed to entertain the spirits of the ancestors.
This year, the event was held at 18 July 2009 at Esplanade, Penang. It was jointly organised by the state government and the Japanese Consulate.
The event was started with speech by Y.B. Tuan Law Heng Kiang followed by Tuan Hideaki Hoshi Consul-General of Japan and Penang Chief Minister, Y.A.B. Tuan Lim Guan Eng.
There were over 80 stalls selling food, souvenirs and providing games in making the event merrier...
The festival featured Bon Odori dance and drum performances by the Penang Japanese Association, Malaysian-Japanese Society, Penang Japanese Language Society as well as other supporting associations...
Everyone enjoyed the stage performances. Some of the visitors with Kimono even danced together with the performers on stage. The event was ended with a 10-minute fireworks display at 10pm.
During the event, I managed to took some portrait shots on a few cute little girls and boys with their Kimonos...
